Interesting Gravestones in the Churchyard
Scheduling the old gravestones and transcribing the inscriptions can sometimes be quite challenging.
As a part of our work in the Churchyard, we have been recording the history of some of the gravestones which have been moved from their original locations in order to make a footpath, or ‘walkway’ right around the Church.
The oldest gravestone we have identified dates back to the 1600s and a great deal of the others date back to the 1700s and the 1800s.
Many of the old stones were taken up in the early 1970s and re-laid to form the walkway which runs right around the boundary of the Church building.
